Call number is the basis for arrangement of books and readers’ access to books, and its direct manifestation is the number label on the book’s spine. Our library's call number is composed of two parts, the classification number and the author's name number. The first row of the book mark is the classification number, and the second row is the author's name number.

Classification number is based on the subject of the book according to a classification of the given number. At present, the classification method adopted by our library is "Chinese Library Classification".

Author's number is the number given by the author's name. At present, our library uses the "Chinese books’ Phonetic Alphabet Number List", according to the name of the Chinese phonetic alphabet number list our library gives its corresponding number.

When getting the books shelved, firstly arranging the books by the classification number, then by the author’s name number arrange the same kind of books, this method centralize the same author’s books which are on the same subjects. And it is convenient for the readers to find and use. ISBN Description

The ISBN is short for International Standard Book Number and is an international number designed specifically for the identification of books and other literature. ISO in 1972 promulgated the ISBN international standards, and set up in Prussia Library West Berlin to implement the standard management agency --- ISBN International Center. Presently, publications using ISBN coding systems are: books, brochures, microfilms, braille prints, etc. Currently, ISBN numbers are 10 digits and 13 digits.

The 10-digit ISBN is a number used before 2007 and is divided into four sections:
1, group number: on behalf of the publisher's country, geographical area, language and so on. Our country group number is "7".
2, publisher number: on behalf of the group belongs to a specific publisher (publishers, publishing companies, etc.).
3, the book name: on behalf of a publishing house published a specific title of the publication.
4, check digit: is the last digit of the ISBN number, used to check whether there is any error during the transcription of ISBN number.

For example: "Frontpage98 Web Design" book ISBN number is: 7-118-01984-4, the meaning is: 7, on behalf of China; 118, on behalf of the Defense Industry Press; 01984, is the title of the book; 4, is the test code.
As of January 1, 2007, all ISBN agencies worldwide publish only 13-digit ISBNs. The 13-digit ISBN is actually the EAN-13 barcode. The EAN is the European Article Number. It is the symbol of the European Union's "European Article Numbering Association" that draws on UPC's experience. The unique prefix code assigned by EAN International to the ISBN system is 978.

For example: "CALIS online cooperative cataloging manual" out of the bottom of the ISBN there is a 13-digit number
    ISBN: 7-301-04815-7
    EAN-13: 978-7-301-04815-3
Prefix 978 (on behalf of the book), the middle part of the ISBN the same, the last one is the check code parity bit weighting algorithm and 10-bit ISBN algorithm is different. The specific algorithm is as follows: multiply the odd digit of the first 9 digits of ISBN by 1, multiply the even digit by 3, and the sum of the scores is modulo 10 to get the value of the check digit. The value range should be 0-9.
